PRESS RELEASE Karl-Erik Talvet has obtained a BA degree in painting at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2014. He has participated in exhibitions since 2010. The artist pracises both painting and comic art. Kark-Erik Talvet: „As a patriot of my homeland I have been more and more worried (like countless fellow Estonians and other fellow nations of Eastern Europe) about the increasingly aggressive behaviour of our unrepentant Eastern neighbour Russia since the April events in 2007 continued by with Russo-Georgian War and reached to the crisis taking place in Ukraine right now. A few years ago I joined Estonian Defence League in order to contribute to the reinforcement of the defence of our country. This has also inspired me to create works for the current exhibition whereas some paintings are based on photographs I took during the training exercises. I'd like to contemplate on other subjects and redirect my interests; however, all the ongoing political events influence us and this has made me realize that our sovereignty and survival depend on ourselves. In sublime speeches we are reminded of the fact that we won't be left alone; yet, we cannot forget that those who are ready to defend themselves are protected the best. Let me remind you here that in 1939 Estonians gave in without resistance. We all know where it took us for a long period of time.“ Exhibition will be open until February 14, 2015. Thanks to Estonian Defence League Tallinn district. Exhibitions in Draakon gallery are supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. |
