PRESS RELEASE

PEETER ALLIK (1966) will open his personal exhibition Horse's Head in Hobusepea gallery at 6pm on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

Peeter Allik has participated in exhibitions since the late 1980s. Allik is a founding member of Kursi School; he has been awarded with Ado Vabbe Annual Prize and Konrad Mägi Annual Award for Estonian Painting. Peeter Allik is a productive artist with imposing career - he has held more than 30 personal exhibitions, participated in numerous exhibtions abroad and received many art prizes. At his current exhibition Allik introduces his selected works completed during the past few years – large-format paintings spiced by madness and irony that is characteristic of Allik's work.

Peeter Allik:
„Finally the day has dawned when my exhibition „Horse's Head“ can be seen in Hobusepea gallery that is an excellent exhibition space. I am showing my large-format paintings that have been created during the past few years. There are two series – „Visual Diarrhoea“ and „Flags-Coats of Arms“. Both series are meant to support peace and the everlasting progress in the world. As usual, I create various monstrous situations, breathtaking beauty, overwhelming feeling of happiness and physical satisfaction. After all, this is the purpose and concept of art, isn't it?

In the series „Flags-Coats of Arms“ I concentrate on the magical world of heraldry where the world is depicted in the same size as a lion; a lion's size is that of an oak leaf; and a Kalashnikov rifle has been tattooed on the sun. This environment finds favor with those respecting bizarre art, also with cynical and hopelessly naive people. The cut off horse's head as the universal symbol for the current exhibition's universe is the sign of the radical restraint of human essence; the sign that in its details being an extension of evidently inclined national embodiment, yet everyone can understand it in a different way. Just like every picture or image gives power to a message.

The series „Visual Diarrhoea“ includes a number of large-format paintings that rambunctiously tell and describe stories about today's wonderful society and human culture. This is a gigantic effort to depict the world in its diversity as well as to open a mysterious door to the endless treasures of human soul.

Stop being disgustingly mysterious and picking your nose! It's time to do something big!“

Exhibition will be open until February 16, 2015.

Exhibitions in Hobusepea gallery are supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
