PRESS RELEASE

KÜLLI SUITSO's (1974) personal exhibition Storage will be open for public in Hobusepea gallery since October 22, 2008.

Suitso studied and worked in Tartu, now living and working in Denmark, yet she should be known for the local art audiences. She has participated in exhibitions of Kursi School in 1996-2003; taken part in numerous group exhibitions; and held private exhibitions in Tallinn City Gallery in 2003, Draakon gallery in 2004, ArtDepoo gallery in 2007.

Külli Suitso's former private exhibitions have mostly expanded upon the artist's relationship with various spaces - especially concerning the changes that have taken place in her private space. Suitso has placed herself as a neutral observer, having more or less happily integrated into her new living environment.

Throughout the history and various cultures people have had very different customs, rites, traditions, beliefs, heroes, and Gods together with darker powers and everything that has been considered as negative. Every nation takes its own cultural sphere and its world view as the right and the most natural one, no matter the century. Getting to know other traditions and cultures may come as a shock - it's different, it's wrong! This is more or less questioning MY/OUR/EGO activities. People are often so dedicated to their own MY/OUR-lifestyle, and while protecting and justifying it, they forget to step back in order to look at things from a distance. It often happens that one is only noticing the image on a cardboard box ...

Exhibition will be open until November 10, 2008.
