Repnau's work has been inspired by Slavoj Žižek's question „What is wrong with happiness?" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqhWiohr_gQ . According to this, people will never become happy because their desire for things they don't actually need – and to give up these desires would mean identifying with nothingness and nonexistence. All human desires are psychic disorders that lead us to self-delusion and confirm our existence. The whole vital functioning is based on a neurosis, the human with to be happy. While searching answers to Žižek's question, for example Aristotle has said that the human desire to be happy is as natural as the plant's desire to grow. The question is: what to do? According to Plato, happiness is knowledge and the wisdom to give up the objectives and things that one actually does not need. Physical conditions are not to be connected with happiness, since it can be found inside people, with the right attitude and „mental health“.

ETERNAL HARMONY (LIISI AND MINNA)

As for Repnau, she is visualizing Happiness as the bright hyperrealistic paradise-like watchtowerish illusion. Current exhibition can be called an experimental journey on the paths of happiness where the reality and the utopic exaggeration build up the whole.

Exhibition will be open until July 20, 2009.
