PRESSITEADE

Alates kolmapäevast, 19.12.2007 saab Hobusepea galeriis vaadata JAAN TOOMIK´u (1961) isikunäitust Valmisolek.



Nagu paljudel varasematelgi näitustel, eksponeerib Jaan Toomik ka sel näitusel koos uusimat video- ja maaliloomingut. Viis, kuidas Toomiku maalid sünnivad, ei ole samuti oluliselt aastatega muutunud. Enesereflektiivsed ja hetkeimpulsside ning meeleolude ajel sündinud maalid on endiselt piisavalt narratiivsed, tekitamata vajadust neid sõnaohtralt verbaliseerida. Korduvad motiivid, sublimatsioon, mediteerimine iseenda ja oleva üle - on märksõnad, millest tavapäraselt Jaan Toomiku loomingu kirjeldamisel mööda ei pääseta. See kõik on kohal ka sel näitusel, kuid esmapilgul väikese erinevusega. On üks märksõna, mida võib lugeda juba ehk Toomiku pseudonüümikski - äng. Peab ilmselt paljude vaatajate kurbuseks või ehk ka kergenduseks tunnistama, äng on seekord maha ununud. Ei ole Toomiku maalides vaevlemist häda ja viletsuse käes ega soomeugrilikku liigtõsist nuttu ja hala. On hoopis erinevad valmisoleku viisid (kui lähtuda pealkirjast), pisut talvist fekaalivedu ja üks jalutuskäik öises kasvuhoones. Ei midagi ängistavat.



Videoloomingus on Toomik seekord nõuks võtnud kahestuda.

Kui videos "Nimeta" (2007) võib leida sarnasusi varasematest üliminimalistlikest teostest "Jaan" (2001) ja "Juga" (2005), siis videost "Isa ja poeg 2" (2007) vaataja suunas paiskuv power on ehk võrreldav varasemate videotega "Tantsides isaga" (2003) ja "Tantsides koju" (2005), kuigi teema kõigil erinev. Kirjeldada siinkohal videot ei tahaks, kes soovib, võib tõmmata paralleele äsja lõppenud Marko Mäetamme isikunäitusega, leida viiteid olukorrale liikluses või siis otsida videost ängistust mida seal ei ole.

Born on October 2, 1961 in Tartu, Estonia; lives and works in Tallinn, Estonia.
Works at the Estonian Academy of Arts, professor.

1985-1991 studied at the Estonian Academy of Arts, faculty of painting.
